How to catch Largemouth Bass in Ontario

Ambush hunters that live in cover — weeds, wood, and docks. The thicker the slop, the better the largemouth.
When to fish
Spring fish move shallow to spawn; through summer they bury in vegetation and shade. Warm water and low light fire them up.
Where to find them
Weed beds, lily pads, laydowns, docks, and back bays. Find the thickest green cover on the lake.
How to catch them
Weightless soft plastics and Texas-rigged worms in cover, hollow-body frogs over pads, and spinnerbaits or jigs along edges.
Gear
A medium-heavy baitcaster with 15–30 lb braid lets you pull fish out of heavy cover.
Pro tip
Pitch into the nastiest cover you can find and hang on — most largemouth bites are reaction strikes inches from the boat.
