Privacy Policy
TackleDex is built around a simple promise: fishing progress should be fun without exposing exact spots. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use service providers, and how you can contact us about privacy.
Who We Are
TackleDex provides Ontario-first fishing quests, private catch logging, FishDex collection, and private friend competition. For privacy, deletion, access, correction, or support requests, email support@tackledex.com.
Information We Collect
- Account information such as email address, Apple Sign-In identifier, handle, date of birth, minor status, timezone, and profile settings.
- Onboarding choices such as home water, fishing style, target species, motivations, and privacy defaults.
- Catch and scouting content such as species, length, method, lure, waterbody label, timestamp, verification state, photos, private notes, reports, and progression outcomes.
- Location information when you allow it, including precise or approximate device location for nearby water discovery, weather context, or private catch context.
- Crew, invite, leaderboard, notification, moderation, and support information needed to operate private competition and safety features.
- Subscription and entitlement information from Apple and RevenueCat.
- Diagnostics, analytics, feature flag, device, app performance, and crash information.
How We Use Information
- Provide account access, onboarding, Today quests, FishDex progress, catch logging, crew competition, Pro features, and support.
- Keep recommendations and challenge surfaces season-aware, privacy-safe, and relevant to your fishing preferences.
- Process purchases, restore entitlements, prevent abuse, handle reports, and protect the service.
- Send opted-in notifications, including crew activity and competition reminders, without private GPS.
- Improve reliability, performance, safety, accessibility, and product quality.
- Respond to support, deletion, access, correction, privacy, and safety requests.
Location and Spot Privacy
Exact GPS is never meant to appear in leaderboards, share cards, crew views, Local Events previews, notifications, or public-facing app surfaces. TackleDex may process precise location when you grant permission, but social and competition surfaces should show only broad waterbody names or privacy-safe labels.
You can use TackleDex without granting location permission, although nearby water discovery and some local context may be less precise.
Photos and Metadata
Catch photos are used for private logs and optional verification. TackleDex is designed to route uploaded catch photos through a metadata-stripping pipeline before storage. Share cards are generated from a privacy-safe payload and should not include exact GPS or original photo metadata.
Service Providers
TackleDex may use service providers to operate the app. These include Supabase for authentication, database, storage, and Edge Functions; RevenueCat and Apple for subscriptions; PostHog for product analytics; Statsig for feature flags and experiments; Sentry for diagnostics and crash reporting; Expo for app and notification services; Open-Meteo for weather context; and hosting or infrastructure providers for legal, support, and app services.
Some providers may process information outside your province, state, or country. We use providers to deliver the app and aim to limit the data sent to what is needed for the relevant feature.
Analytics and Tracking
TackleDex uses analytics to understand product usage and improve app quality. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use data broker advertising or cross-company tracking in the first release.
Retention and Deletion
You can request account deletion in the app from Settings. TackleDex immediately hides the account from normal app use, signs you out, and schedules permanent deletion after the 30-day safety window described in the app. Some information may be retained longer when needed for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, billing disputes, moderation, backups, or to complete deletion workflows.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, withdraw consent for, or receive information about personal information we process. California residents may also have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights. TackleDex does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the first release.
To make a privacy request, email support@tackledex.com. We may need to verify your account before acting on a request.
Children and Minors
TackleDex is not submitted as a Kids category app. Junior privacy controls are designed to be conservative. Minor accounts should not be able to disable core privacy protections, and public surfaces should use handle-first, location-safe behavior.
Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including authentication controls, database access policies, privacy-safe payload design, and server-side metadata removal for uploaded catch photos. No online service can guarantee perfect security.
Fishing Regulations
TackleDex is not an official regulations source and is not a substitute for Ontario's current fishing regulations, Fisheries Management Zone rules, exceptions, limits, local closures, or advisories.
Changes
We may update this policy as TackleDex changes. The effective date at the top of the page shows when this policy was last updated.
